You may wish to shake your head in despair…

The soap thing has not been laid to rest… Nope, no, not at all. I am about to go to Tesco to buy useful things like food and lightbulbs, but of course I’m going to have to buy a more ordinary bar of soap now too* and explode… er, I mean put it in the microwave to be turned into moonrock.

*In case it sounds like I don’t own soap and therefore wash, I would just like to reassure you that that’s not the case – I do wash, but with the squirty soapy shower gel type stuff (I don’t think you can microwave that though).

Update: Results and conclusion of microwave experimentation (playtime!)** Unfortunately I only have a before shot of the green Radox (see previous post) because after its visit to the microwave I was trying to get rid of the stink rather than take photos!

Ill-fated Radox
Green Radox – do not microwave – it does not make cool green moonrock, but only a lot of smoke and a revolting stink!

SoapBefore
The innocent little bar of soap!

Moonrock
Woohooo – moonrock!

**Children – do not try this at home – putting random objects in the microwave is not a good idea and should only be done by experienced and highly skilled scientific types like me!

Smelly Smoky Soap

I sat down merrily at ye olde computer this morning to sort out my Junior assembly and to blog about something that I’ll blog after I’ve blogged this…! Anyway, I got slightly side-tracked by Persephone Hazard and her moonrock soap! Ooh, that looks fun I thought… Unfortunately I didn’t have a bar of ordinary soap around but I did remember the bright green R***x soap I got with a Christmas present. I wasn’t quite sure what the perfumed, R***x aspect of the bar would do in the microwave but, hey, green moonrock – cool!
Anyway, I took the before pictures, bunged it in, retreated to the other side of the kitchen (camera in hand and at the ready just in case there was an impressive explosion to capture on ‘film’) and then waited. It’s a bit concerning when your microwave’s pretty old and the light doesn’t work anymore so you can’t see what’s happening. But all seemed to be fine until just over a minute in and smoke started coming from the microwave and a revolting smell of burning. Now this might be par for the course when you’re making moonrock, but I thought the perfume bit might be about to do something nasty so I wimped out*!! You could see the beginnings of the moonrock though. (The house stinks of burnt R***x soap now… TeenSon will be so impressed when he wakes up!).

*When you have experienced a microwave explosion in the kitchen before, it makes you slightly cautious about doing it again… a few years ago I accidently blew up a mince pie… there was a huge bang as the plate broke in half and flames shot out of the microwave!

After thought: The theme we’ve been given for assemblies for the next couple of weeks is, ‘What would Jesus have done?’ I suspect he wouldn’t have blown up perfumed soap in the microwave… but then he’s probably better at physics and stuff than me! Right… assembly… I don’t think I’ll mention the soap!

To Write or not To Write…

I have just realised that I have a dream to be a writer! It’s funny what you notice over a nice cup of tea, eh? It’s taken me a pretty long time to become what I am now – and I’m still only starting out really; so I don’t want to be a writer instead of that*, but as well as – another string to my bow you might say. (I’ve wanted to use that expression since I read a book as a girl, about a family full of unusual talents – and one ordinary boy who had no ’strings to his bow’ – can’t remember what it’s called now though**). Anyway, a writer… I’m not quite sure what I’d write about, I’m not particularly imaginative in the field of fiction, and I’m too soft to be a journalist! Hmmm… what’s left?
….shopping lists… I’ll have to be a writer of shopping lists…ho hum!

* I’ve still got a sermon to write for tomorrow – but I’m not counting that!!
**’Absolute Zero’ – that was it – struck a chord with me it did!

Blah Blah Blah…

I feel like writing (or maybe I feel like talking) I’m not quite sure which? Anyway, I love writing, though at this point in the proceedings I have no idea what I’m going to write! I’m in a drifting around kind of mood this evening – trying to make the most of my day off, but having only a smidgeon of energy and motivation which isn’t that conducive to great achievements! I did manage to sit at the kitchen table and write a couple of letters which I’m really pleased about, because I haven’t seen those who’ll be receiving them (various of my in-laws) in quite a while and sometimes you just want them to know that you’re thinking of them. I read a few verses of Romans, drifted around the Ship a bit, put away a couple of Christmas presents that had been left to have a home found for them, and now I’m wondering whether to go to bed and watch a DVD as I know I won’t do any of the jobs on the list… but somehow that always brings tomorrow round far too quickly, and I want to hang on to my day off for a bit longer!
Perhaps I’ll just light a candle as I sit here and let God take hold of my contented, thankful, daunted, happy, sad, grateful, wondering, settled, rambling and tired thoughts… and ask for his light to shine.

Virtual Cuppa!

Cuppa

Hey Lookin (dreamer!) mate – your hot chocolate’s ready!
Despite plotting a get-together, a virtual cuppa and catch up was all we’ve ended up managing today – but that’s better than nothing! It gave me a chance to get out the Wallace and Gromit teapot I got for Christmas (and the other thing is the matching money box – which isn’t particularly necessary for making tea, but I thought I’d get a piccie of that too). Anyway, our drinks are on the table… but the kettle’s boiled if anyone else would like one…

Goo…

This post was going to be about the Google searches that have reached the blog recently… and it still will be about that… eventually, when I’ve had a little random ramble first!
I was trying to decide what to put as the title, you know, trying to avoid the plain and simple ‘Google’. So, my mind flitted around a bit and then found in some dark recess, the phrase ‘Googly Woogly’! Well, that seemed a bit more interesting but I thought I’d better Google it to check that ‘the ones in charge of the internet’ didn’t think it was ruder than I did. Apparently not – but did you know there’s a Googly Woogly Queen? It didn’t interest me that much, so if you want to find out – you’ll have to Google it yourself!
Anyway, where was I…? Oh yes, titles… well having got ‘Goo…gle’ well and truly in my mind I then remembered the Goo Goo Dolls and thought, “Ooh, I must add them onto my music/bands list in the previous post because I absolutely love ‘Iris’ – top song!
And so after all that… I finally come back to who’s Googled what to get here!
First was ‘Chelley’. It’s quite nice to know that I come up on the first page for having my own name – though I am rather put out that the Shire is only number 4 and 5 – and the Teapot is top of page two. I mean that’s *my* name!! (I think the Shire only beat the Teapot because of the number of times I said it – I don’t think I’ll psychoanalyse that though!).
The second search was for ‘Let’s walk on the wild side’ – for which the Shire was number 2 – I hope they weren’t too disappointed! :D

SO much good music…

…yep, the last couple of years have been just chocca with excellent bands! I was thinking this a while ago, and even contemplated the fact that NOW might be the season of best music in my lifetime… and I’ve loved a lot of music over the years! I’m aware that I’m not going by the rulebook here… as you get older aren’t you supposed to start saying, “Oooh, call that music – now when I was a girl we had REAL music!” Well, oops, I must have missed that one… and even seem to have shifted back to Radio 1 again too (despite the fact we have lost the great John Peel!). I do of course stick to some of the ‘rules of ageing’ and listen to Radio 2 as well, but my three little fixed stations in the car are Radio 1, Virgin and Radio 4 (in case I want to learn a bit about farming on the way home!).

We do have one problem in our house though – more often than not TeenSon and I both want the same CDs! It seems a bit over-indulgent and unnecessary to be buying two of everything… but when we don’t we have the debate on who *this* particular CD actually belongs to! And it is an important debate because it won’t be that long ’til he flies the nest (at least to Uni) and takes his lot with him. So, we do often end up with the same CDs because my CD collection has moved out once before, and I’m not letting it happen again! Yes, a number of years ago I went through a divorce. We managed to sort out our lives, access arrangements, who got the house, finances and all that without a solicitor – but blimey, dividing up the CD collection when you’ve been together from the age of 17 is another thing! Most of the CDs went with him because, after all, he had bought them and all… but I learnt the lesson then and my favourite bands aren’t going to move out all in one go again!

So anyway, having said all that, I suppose it would only be right to give commendable mention to the great bands of today… woohoo, I love ‘em:

Red Hot Chilli Peppers, White Stripes, My Chemical Romance, Muse, Kasabian, Keane, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, The Kooks, The Streets, Blink-182, The Killers, The Kaiser Chiefs, Hard-Fi, Franz Ferdinand (now playing!) and The Fratellis. This list may well get longer when I wake up a bit!
Praise the Lord for excellent music and great bands!!

(Oh and before someone else says it – yes I know they haven’t all only just come on the scene – I mean, look at the Chilli Peppers – but they have been in the market for chucking out albums in the last couple of years!)

Growing list as the day goes on: Green Day, The View…

What HAVE I Been Doing…?

create your own visited country map
or check our Venice travel guide

Well, it’s a start I suppose! I’m rather put out that there was no little ‘Ibiza’ box to tick – because that little red dot would have made a huge difference to my map! (Not to mention that I went when I was 17, when it was a somewhat happening place to be for the young and cool (haha)… I was of course a respectable and responsible young Brit abroad… not like the drunken whippersnappers today)!

Now I don’t believe you wanted to do that…

EDIT! When you change something, you want to press ‘edit’ – not delete!!

Oh well, it wasn’t that interesting anyway!

What’s the answer…

…to the random question? Hmmm…. you’ll have to find the question tucked somewhere about the main page of the little Shire here. I wonder who the genius will be who can answer it in the comments (without letting on where the question was)?
Yeah well… I’ve been working hard and felt like doing something pointless and random!

A clue? Ok then. I like to spout a load of nonsense :D

Another clue… Just hover around for a bit.
