Wiblog entry for 26/07/2007

Right, it really is about time I blogged something. I must have something to say – I am after all a reasonably intelligent person who doesn’t live in a bubble and has views on a number of elements of life and society! So… yes… erm…

…nope, we’ll have to get by on ‘random things I’ve been doing’ (and perhaps the profound psychological/sociological/analytical comment will flow after…. hahaha).
So, I’ve been trying to choose paints today for the house I’m moving into soon but have so far only achieved a number of rather random blobs on several walls and a lot of paint up my thumb.
Neil and Ivonne stayed at the weekend which was really great. I’m enjoying seeing the piccies of what they did in between being here and, well, being here. (I am especially impressed with that water maze thing on the South Bank which I feel I must also go and play in soon).
I have been working very hard – but I can’t tell you about that because, well, I don’t talk about that!
Hmmm, going back to the paint colours… I am slightly concerned that I’m going to have a ‘Lou and Andy’ moment when I see some of the colours I’ve chosen on the walls: “don’t like it!” They look very nice in tiny little blobs but what will a roomful look like? Still, I love yellow – so I’m having yellow – I just hope that out of the 27,000* yellows that Dulux alone offer, I’ve picked the right one!
The microwave has dinged so I’d better go and get on with the dinner…

*a slight glimmer of exaggeration may have crept in there

And they’ll know we are Christians by our love…

… or are they more likely to know we are Christians by our judgmental attitude and our slight frown of disapproval when we come across someone who’s not behaving quite right?
I’ve got the song running in my head but sometimes the things we sing that we do and the things we actually do are poles apart. How often do we expect people to conform to our list of expectations when we’ve not first had time for them, we’ve not listened to them, we’ve not served them or met their needs?
Some of the unfashionable choruses are the most challenging.
AND THEY’LL KNOW WE ARE CHRISTIANS BY OUR LOVE*

*I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. (John 13: 34,35)

So, sod’s law strikes again!

At 5.45pm I decided to phone the number that came with my service call booking – to find out that I was nowhere to be found on the service call list – hurrah!! (And this despite the fact that I have a confirmation e-mail in front of me with all the details). The lady on the phone was very nice and I was very nice back – but it still means that I’ve got a broken washing machine and have to wait ’til Monday morning now for them to come. At least it’s an 8am ’til 1pm call this time (which is a good job seeing as I’m working on Monday). Ho hum… looks like I’ll be back at VicarBoss’s with my washing again!

Cast your bets…

It is my day off today. My washing machine broke last week. I am waiting for the repair man to come. He will be here sometime between 8am and 6pm. I got up early to do the washing up from last night in case he came at 8am. He didn’t come at 8am (but I haven’t finished the washing up yet anyway). If I had stayed in bed for a bit he would have come at 8am. If I were to pop out for 5 minutes during the day I expect that’s when he would arrive. It is becoming clear from my deductions that repair men operate under sod’s law. Still, I’m glad the nice man is coming to fix my washing machine… I hope.

A mystery…

…why does it say ‘7′ comments on the post below when there are two?!

Hmmmmmmmm

Right, I am determined to post something on here… there must be loads of things I could say – I have the sort of job that presents all kinds of unexpected, interesting and eyebrow raising events and conversations in the course of a day… but I try not to blog about work; hmmmm. And then there’s the big stuff happening in my life at the moment… but I’m not allowed to talk about that yet; hmmmm. And teenagers come out with some right corkers I bet you’d enjoy… but I promised not to blog about TeenSon too much without permission (and seeing as he tried to negotiate a £5 fee a while ago for everytime I mention him in a sermon – it could get expensive here too!); hmmmm. I do have a little dream to be one of those thought-provoking type bloggers… but that’s just a dream; hmmmm. So all I can manage at the moment is: it rained here too today!
