I have just spent a few random moments reflecting on the fact that Dave (or was it Chris?) could have picked a ‘u’ instead of an ‘i’ and then we’d have all been left with the wubsite, have been posting ramble on our wublogs and have enjoyed (those who were able to go) the wub gathering at Greenbelt… now wouldn’t that have been ridiculous!
(Of course they could equally have gone for an ‘o’ or ‘a’ but that’s a thought for another day).

One more week to go before I start work again in NewHomeTown. It’s been lovely to have a few (rather hectic what with moving/unpacking and all that) weeks off though I’m quite looking forward to getting into church and parish life again.
Today some of the last ’sorting out the house’ jobs are being done… a Spurs supporter is replacing the damaged shower tray and a West Ham supporter is fitting a couple of internal doors. Of course I greeted them this morning wearing a Spurs shirt… it had to be done. We’re settling in very well round here generally, but I’m feeling like I’m in alien territory! Back home in OldHomeTown we were firmly rooted in Spurs territory (hurrah!) – at our nearest big shopping centre there was a Spurs shop, the majority of people (other than the deluded few Arsenal supporters) were Spurs people and you saw a lot of Spurs shirts wandering around (attached to people of course). But here… the local big shopping centre has a West Ham shop (I’m sure TiredandEmotional would be delighted!), we went in a sports shop a couple of days ago and there was a giant West Ham flag on the wall and everyone wanders round in claret and blue – it’s very disturbing and it’s the thing that’s taking the most getting used to (only football fans will understand I’m sure!). But still, this is where the Lord has led us and he must know what he’s doing haha! I think a therapeutic visit to White Hart Lane is in order sometime soon (I did check the transport links when I was weighing up whether to apply here!).
I think this is a necessary way to finish this post today…
Glory glory Tottenham Hotspur
Glory glory Tottenham Hotspur
Glory glory Tottenham Hotspur
And the Spurs go marching on.
[A little aside... because dealing with funerals is a part of everyday life, you find yourself planning what you'd like at your own! TeenSon has got used to me randomly stating songs I quite fancy for my funeral and now just raises his eyebrows and says, "Just write it down somewhere!" But I remember deciding one day that I wanted 'Glory glory Alleluia' with alternating verses... Alleluia/Tottenham Hotspur. I hope God won't mind sharing the glory just that once!]

It’s been an interesting weekend as we continue to settle into our new home. I’ve had an old friend (that is she’s a very good and longstanding friend, rather than she’s old!) and her daughter (lovely god-daughter) to stay which has been great, though it feels quite strange now they’ve gone and it’s back to me and TeenSon and not really knowing many people here yet.
Our plans to go to the not-far-off seaside were rather delayed on Saturday by the toilet in the ‘lovely’ new bathroom getting blocked! So we all spent the morning waiting for the drain man who announced when he arrived that it could only be sorted on Monday. (I would like to add at this point that the problem was a longstanding one that our arrival here made apparent!).
But we did get there in the end and a good time – and much candyfloss, honeycomb and amusements were had by all. The walk back to the car, along the front was lovely – there’s nothing quite like the sun starting to set over the sea. I suspect that when I need some praying and pondering, some ‘away’ time and reminders of God as I take on my new role, this might be the place I’ll go:

And then this morning Old Friend and Lovely god-daughter wanted to have a bit of a wander at GBSC (Great Big Shopping Centre) which is just up the road, so we tootled over there. It turned out to be a special day for the Sea Cadets so we had the added bonus of some excellent displays:
Sea Cadet Band

Sailors’ Hornpipe

Club swinging

And yes, now it’s back to the boxes!
